Solidarity Youth Movement was founded on May 13, 2003 in Kozhikode, Kerala. The organization has its base in Kozhikode and presence through out kerala. It is a youth movement that believes in channeling the revolutionary spirit of the youth creatively into constructive efforts that result in the betterment of the society as a whole. The doors of this organization are open to everyone who is less than 40 years of age and is not a student regardless of his caste, creed or religion.
Reckless Capitalism and the resultant unbridled consumerism have infiltrated our lives to a great extend and these evil forces has to be combated. Corruption and partisanship are synonymous with governance today. Government’s negligence of the poorer sections of the society and its apathy towards the peripheral sections calls for an all out war. Social evils that are present in our society have to be rooted out. Environment is under attack and is in dire need of protection and restoration. Collective effort of young men is required for all this. Solidarity believes that the youth have a big role in correcting all these evils and for this they need to stand together behind a strong leadership.
Youthful energy also needs to be utilized in the service of the needy. The poorer sections of society are in need of a helping hand. If food is the issue with someone, others need a roof over their head and still others need land. It is a matter of shame that even in the 21st centaury there are people in our state without access to potable drinking water. There are those whose life has been destroyed by the irrational and destructive models of development followed by the State in collusion with the high and mighty. Given this scenario Solidarity counsels youth to take up the job of wiping the tears from the eyes of their less privileged brothers and sisters.
The history of Solidarity Youth movement hitherto has proved the dreams of its founding fathers true. The 800 plus houses build for the poor with the active participation of Solidarity members since its birth, its grand rehabilitation project for the Endosalphan Victims, helping hand extended to the Moolampally evictees are few of its many achievements. Active participation of the Organization in the Plachimada anti-coca cola agitation, leadership role it played in the Express way agitation and the active support it extended to Chengara agitation proclaim its worth to our Society.
Solidarity Youth Movement owes its parentage to India’s Islamic movement, Jamaete Islami Hind.
